Writely

January 28th, 2006 Posted in General

I’ve come across another quite cool web 2.0 application: Writely.

Writely is what I would consider the 1st viable web-based word processor. It allows you to import almost all of the popular document types (Word, OpenOffice, HTML, etc), edit them online and save the back to multiple formats.

That is fine in itself, but real power of Writely is the ability to collaborate (in real time!) with others on a document. So if you’re in St. Louis and a business parter/co-worker is in Portland, you both can bring up a document and work on it in unison….pretty sweet.

The deal-sealer for me is that it plugs-in to most major blogging tools. I use WordPress for this site, but it’s editor is rather limited. I can now edit blog postings in Writely (which has a very rich editing environment), then press a button and it automagically shoots it over to my blog. Nice.

Check out some of it’s features.
