A Flap Over Foie Gras

April 27th, 2005 | No Comments | Posted in General

So I was reading my most current issue of Newsweek when I came across this article about Foie Gras.

Trust me, I not the biggest fan of Peta and ultra-tree-hugging organizations, but this does seem like a pretty ridiculous thing to do to an animal. There are plenty of awesome things to eat in the world and I don’t see how it would be that bad to see this particular item get kicked to the curb.

Funny 80’s(ish) Songs

I was listening to the new station (that my wife works for) the other day and the song “Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy came on. I instantly started laughing because that song makes me think of the Chris Farley/Patrick Swazey skit where both of them are trying out for Chippendales.

So that got me thinking of older songs I can no longer take seriously because they’re intimately tied to funny skits/movies. I’ve compiled a short list below…feel free to add your own.

  • Dust in the Wind (Kansas): Frank the Tank’s rendition in Old School at Blue’s funeral.
  • Don’t Fear the Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult): SNL Skit
  • Anyway You Want It (Journey): The Rodney Dangerfield golfcourse dance scene in Caddyshack.

Geek Links

If you’re into hacking on things, this is an interesting site.

On a different topic, if you are a software developer (like myself) and have ever had to work with CVS, you will know that it’s pretty good at what it does, but the user interface typically sucks. I’ve finally stumbled upon a good GUI front-end for it. It’s called SmartCVS.

Another link of interest to coders might be this: CXDE
